FAQ

Why is Mariell running for Macomb Circuit Court Judge?

Mariell has devoted her career to protecting constitutional rights and seeking the truth. She views the courtroom as a place that belongs equally to all who enter and firmly believes that the public trust in the judicial system begins with judges who lead with integrity and listen with purpose. For Mariell, the seat of Macomb County Circuit Court Judge isn’t about a job, it’s about a bigger opportunity to serve.

Mariell is a sound litigator with 14 years of experience and perspective. She has handled the hard cases ranging from major felonies, assault, murder, organized crime, domestic violence, family and criminal law. She has conducted trials in Macomb, Oakland, Lapeer, Washtenaw and Wayne County Circuit Courts and has argued twice in front of the Michigan Court of Appeals. She has served in both district and circuit-level treatment courts and has a highly publicized record of courtroom accomplishments.

No. Circuit Court judges do not represent political parties and are required to remain impartial. As an elected official, Mariell is nonpartisan. She is independent of all political parties.

She is a friend of organized labor. Her father worked for 37 years as a pipefitter at General Motors and was a proud member of the UAW.

Being a judge is about protecting people and you can’t do that if you don’t understand prosecution and defense. Years of handling tough cases have given Mariell a sharp instinct for the truth. That is the kind of experience that builds a judge who can’ be fooled, who respects the law and who puts community safety first.
